Sophia and Baby. Tutorial by DANA Step 1. Find the surface (bed or couch) your dolls will lay on. This will help for draping nightgowns later. Step 2. Assemble Sophia (mother doll). We used a very small rectangle (made into a tube) as a slip under nightgown as the batiste is very thin and will show anything underneath. Remember to pose with toes outward in a relaxed position. Step 3. Cut out a rectangle 12" L x 3 1/2" W from batiste for nightgown 'skirt'. Glue under very bottom edge to wrong side (for hem), and then glue lace over 'right side'...see photo. Now while glue is still DAMP, push into an inch pleater, and pleat bottom losely to give it that movement. Glue side edges together to form tube, gather waist, and slide up doll and pull waist tight. Now gently 'squish' down the skirt into a flat position (like she was laying in bed and gravity was taking effect). Pin into place if necessary and spray with Stiffen, and blow dry using diffuser. Step 4. To create the bodice, put glue on chest, and wrap lace around, making edges meet in back. Cut out two small rectangles of batiste for sleeves, make into tubes and slide up dolls arm. I ruffled a piece of lace and glued it on from shoulder to shouder, and added a flower for "V" in front with a bow. Step 5. Baby. After giving her a triangle diaper, dress as desired. |
Wigging was created by laying strip of viscose in 1/4" pleater and pleated.
Next gently pull hair out, and after gluing a hairline, lay a strip of pleated
hair from nose to neck, and another ear to ear. When glue is dry, simply
lift hair over head, and style with corsage pin. I added a few curls from size 00 knitting needle for Sophia's Bangs. |
